At the beginning of May, another tender process was decided in favour of Nexbib. The technology supplier will renew self-checkout as well as return and sorting systems in all Munich public libraries. The project comprises 27 locations and will be implemented from autumn 2023. Existing RFID systems will be replaced and the new libraries in Bogenhausen, Neuaubing, Riem and Freiham will be re-equipped to meet requirements.

“The Munich tender was peppered with challenging hardware and software details. Ergonomics, accessibility, energy-conscious operation are just a part of the diverse catalogue of requirements. We are very happy to be able to tackle the desired modernisation with the Munich Public Library and look forward to this exciting project," emphasises Markus Rösch, Managing Director of Nexbib Germany.

“In terms of RFID equipment, it was high time for a generation change. In the interest of our customers, we want to remain future-proof with modern technologies and meet today's expectations, for example in terms of accessibility, at all locations," explains Dr. Roland Poellinger, Head of eServices at the Munich Public Library. "The whole team is looking forward to the service improvements and providing a fresh library experience for our customers," comments Dr. Roland Poellinger.

Electronically height-adjustable self-service stations and barrier-free return portals will be in operation. The sustainability of future solutions also has a high priority. The previous bins can continue to be used at the new sorting systems, which will head for two to three sorting destinations depending on the location. The shelves of the self-service Nex.Kiosk Nordic - individually designed in terms of size and orientation - are made from sustainable Swedish wood and produced also there in order to pursue a grandchildren-friendly strategy.

It was only in March of this year that Nexbib received the approval to equip 30 locations of the Association of Berlin Public Libraries (VÖBB) with new return and sorting systems.
